Hi, my name is Marly (she/her)
I own and operate Body Truing Massage + Movement. I prefer not to speak about myself in the third person so I’m not going to here. Every word on this website is my own, so my “bio” might look a bit unconventional, but I couldn’t convince Fiona to write it for me, so this is what you get. Fiona is the handsome lady behind me; office manager and official greeter for Body Truing Massage + Movement.
I guess this crazy journey that brought me, and Fiona, to build and run Body Truing Massage + Movement, started when I worked for a veterinary radiologist. I learned so much about life, death, health, and medicine. Through my experiences working with animals I discovered how I wanted to have a positive impact on the world around me. I observed several cases, as a vet tech, where a companion animal developed the same, or similar, illness to their person. It might have been a coincidence, but a lesson came to me from those cases. We inevitably have an effect on each other; our thoughts, our health, our energy's effect on the world around us. I researched programs and areas of study that I could attend while still working full time, and landed on massage therapy.
This is Fiona
Fiona was born in Colorado most likely in 2015. She was in foster care for 5 months awaiting the right person. Fiona has a heart condition which occurs in some large, pure bred dogs, which made it hard for her to find a furever home. I kept seeing her ridiculous face popping up on Facebook (her foster mom is a friend), and finally I drove up to bring her to live in the desert with me. She’s not a big fan of the hottest months, but does appreciate the weather here most of the year. Her favorite things in life are food, naps, going to the park, and socializing with people, especially kids. Fiona and I keep each other healthy and happy with positive peer pressure. She makes sure that we walk every day, and I make sure she doesn’t eat too much. We make a good team. She will be waiting to greet you with enthusiasm when you come to the office.
In the summer of 2009 I graduated from the Cortiva Institute of Massage Therapy in Tucson, beginning my career in alternative health care. The skills I acquired in massage school could be used in a number of ways; I was drawn toward the therapeutic and scientific qualities of massage. Over the years I have sought out further education that helps me guide and treat my clients toward better health. I focused my studies on Sports Massage, Orthopedic Massage, treatment of frozen shoulder, pain management, and myofascial release. In 2015 I became a Certified Personal Trainer with NASM so that I could incorporate movement as therapy to correct movement and postural patterns that often precipitate the need for massage. To further that knowledge, in 2018, I completed a 500 hour Pilates Teacher Training program in Tucson with Ren Udall of Centerline Movement. Of course, my love of learning and thirst for fun new movement skills continues as I now dive into kettlebell and sandbag training courses, skills training in Indian clubs and steel mace.
